Blackpool is the United Kingdom's largest coastal resort and is located in the North West of the country close to the Lake District. The town is famous across the world for its many attractions including its Pleasure Beach, Golden Mile, and Blackpool Tower.

Blackpool Tower

Blackpool's most famous landmark is its wonderful tower which stands at 158m and can be seen from miles away as you approach the town. The tower opened to the public in 1893 and was built after town officials had been impressed by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Blackpool Tower hosts a wide variety of attractions from the Tower Circus to the fun centres and pantomines.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

If the tower is Blackpool's most famous landmark then the Pleasure Beach is the towns biggest attraction in terms of visitor numbers. The Pleasure Beach stands towards the south end of the promenade and is home to a vast variety of fun fair rides and attractions.

One of the Pleasure Beach's most famous rides is The Big One which was built during the 1990's and at the time was the highest and steepest roller coaster in the world.

Blackpool Illuminations

The world famous Blackpool Illuminations open each Autumn and run through to late October. The illuminations line the promenade and Tower with different themes each year. You can ride on another famous Blackpool attraction, a Blackpool tram, for the best way to see all the illuminations.

The Golden Mile

The promenade at Blackpool is lined with hotels looking onto the wide sandy beaches nestled between the towns three piers. The stretch of promenade between the Pleasure Beach and just the tower is known as The Golden Mile and is where you'll find most of the towns many arcades.
